When it comes to protein smoothies, the most popular question is whether whey protein or isolate is preferable. I did not know the difference for a long time. Until I completed my investigation, I always assumed it was the same thing. Only to discover that there is a significant difference between whey protein isolate and whey protein. If you want to find out the difference between the two, just stick around.
WHAT MAKES THEM DIFFERENT?
The difference between a whey protein and a whey protein isolate is in the amount of protein each one of them contains. Let’s face it, we all want a protein shake that contains a lot of protein. It is pointless to drink a protein smoothie that is low in protein. To be totally honest with you, you are essentially squandering your money if you stick to a protein shake with a low protein count. If you want a protein smoothie with a high protein count, stick to a whey protein isolate.
The protein content of the whey protein isolate is 90 percent. It contains 90 percent protein because it has gone through a filtration process. A whey protein isolate is exceptionally clean and easy to digest thanks to this filtration procedure. It is simple to digest because it is low in fats, sugar, and lactose. During the filtration process, fats, sugar, and lactose are removed.
I recommend sticking to whey protein if you are serious about bulking up and gaining muscle. If you are trying to lose weight and gain lean muscle, I recommend sticking to a whey protein isolate. I stick to my whey protein isolate because I am on a lean bulking diet.
WHICH ONE IS BETTER?
The next common question people ask will be which is better between a whey protein and a whey protein isolate. The right answer to that question is that there is no better protein powder between whey protein isolate and whey protein. It all boils down to what you want to achieve with your body. As stated previously, if you want to gain weight, stick to whey protein. Stick to whey protein isolate if you want to lose weight.
Now there are protein powders within a whey protein and a whey protein isolate that you should definitely consider drinking and there are protein powders that you should stay away from as they are considered bad protein powders. The fact that they contain ingredients that are damaging to your body and health is why they are labeled bad protein shakes. They are heavy in sugar and can be difficult to digest, resulting in stomach problems.
If you asked me, I would respond that whey protein isolate is superior for only two reasons. For starters, it has higher protein. I would want to stick to a protein smoothie with high protein content. For me, 30 grams of protein would be excellent. Second, I don’t want to gain weight or get overly muscular. I would like to build lean muscle mass and appear toned. I know I won’t be able to achieve it with whey protein, so I use whey protein isolate instead.

I really like your layout and the content. This is something I most defiantly read. I am all for health and all especially that of protein. Being able to read about and find protein based foods is defiantly for me. So thank you. I am going to read this site for sure more often..
I appreciate this feedback. Thank you so much!
Hey Daniel!
I really enjoyed this article! I have used many different brands of whey protein, but did not consider looking at the differences between whey protein and whey protein isolate. Thank you for bringing that to my attention! I think whey protein isolate is best for me in this point in my life, as I want to continue to get in better shape and get more toned. I think later on perhaps I might switch to regular whey protein to build muscle, but now that I understand the difference I’ll stick to whey protein isolate until I’m ready to bulk up!
Stick to what works for you! Thank you for your feedback.
Thank you so much for clearing this disparity between which is better when it comes to protein shakes, I once had this argument with a friend and tried to explain this. I personally like the whey protein though, it has been doing all the work for me but nevertheless it’s important to note that each protein shake meets different specifications
Everyone has their own preference. I am glad that you were able to find a protein shake that suits your body.
I consume whey protein from time to time, but I didn’t know there were different kinds as you mentioned in this post. I thought they were all the same. We always learn something new, don’t we?
You explained the differences wonderfully. I guess I’ve been doing it wrong then. I need to start consuming whey protein isolate from now on.
Thanks for sharing. It was an interesting read.
Stick to a whey isolate if you want to get lean. It will help you out big time!
I wasn’t even aware there were different types of protein. I have commented on one of your other articles about the problem I have been having now about losing weight. I guess I may need to look and see which kind of protein I am taking in. I am grateful I came across this article because now I know which protein to be using to get lean!
A lot of people did not know that so you are not alone haha. I am glad I could help you out.
Hi there,
I am still around. I love your website and all its articles. Thank you for another great article comparing whey protein and isolate. I must say I have tasted both smoothies and as the saying goes, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Some of my friends prefer whey protein while others prefer to isolate. as for me, I look not only for the taste but also for the quality. both whey protein and isolate are ok for me. I love both. Great after my exercise
You are right. Find your preference and stick to it.
Thanks for that post Daniel,
So, if I understand correctly, whey protein is for just bulking up when you work out. But whey protein isolate has 90% protein and is good for keeping lean (Not gaining wait) but building muscle. Did I get that right? This is an excellent article. I learned something here. Thank you.
Yes, you are absolutely right!
Thank you for sharing this well needed article- Whey protein or isolate which is better. Most times we just do things because others are doing in and do not do the necessary research. I now know that one aids in putting and the other helps you loose weight. Thank you again for sharing this with us.
Thank you for your feedback.
It can be difficult and confusing when it comes to selecting the right product for protein consumption. In my opinion I think the whey protein isolate would be ideal, since it’s easy to digest and wouldn’t cause too much stomach problems. Considering the fact that I might have issues to do with digestion. Thanks for sharing and highlighting the difference between the two products.
I agree. The whey isolate protein powder is perfect for you.
I really learned something new by reading this article. As I had only used whey protein before and did not even know the difference of whey protein isolate. I checked this out and found out what you said is true so from now own I will use whey protein isolate instead of just whey protein. I am also trying to lose weight.
I am glad that I could help you out!
I have been lifting weights for the last few years and to be honest I was in the same boat as you not know the difference between Whey Protein and Whey Protein Isolate. I typically would take Whey Protein but my weight and size was getting too big for my liking…210 lbs. I just cut it totally out not realizing that I could switch to the isolate and still get my protein in. The alternative is just what I need to stay lean and under 200 lbs. Thanks much for clearing up the fog.
Wow! You are really big. I am sure that you have reached your ideal goal so now you should cut. Stick to a whey protein isolate for now.
Hey there Daniel,
Another great post man, I just love reading them. Whey isolate is the WHEY to go…LOL. It is a superior protein powder and people always wonder why it is a little more expensive and your post really answers that question. You do pay for quality and like you said whey isolate is great for weight loss and putting on lean muscle mass. I used to always use ON gold standard 100% whey protein when I am bulking and I use Dymatize ISO 100 when I’m cutting. Those really worked for me back in the day.
Regards
Lawrence
Haha I see what you did there! Love it. Those two are great protein shakes!!
I found this to be very interesting because I thought I had heard the two terms used together, so I didn’t realize that there was a choice between the whey protein and isolate. It does make sense to get as much benefit as possible from the supplement, so it’s helpful to know what to look for in order to find the right products. Thanks for the lesson!
I am glad I could help you out!
Thank you for taking the time to write this article and share it with your audience. As a fellow advocate for nutrition, this information will be both personally and professionally beneficial. I have always chosen whey isolate, which it seems has been the appropriate choice based on my goals. I will keep it up!
I too love the whey isolate as I am on a journey to get leaner.
I take a hydrolised whey protein shake, 20g protein and collagen. Absolutely fantastic stuff. Nice to see the difference of the proteins. I have learnt something new. I feel that when I add extra protein to my diet I have lots more energy, clarity and focus. Its also great when In a rush and haven’t got time to make a balanced meal.
Thank you for your fedback.
I have learnt a lot from your article. I learnt two things from your article which are:
-Whey protein isolate is richer than protein smoothie
-There is no better choice between whey protein and whey protein smoothie, but rather depends on exactly what you intend to gain for the body.
I’d love to read more. Thanks.
Exactly that! You pay attention haha. Thank you for your feedback.
Thank you for the break down difference between whey protein and whey protein isolate. I would never thought or see such a difference. Now I know which protein to go for. The whey protein cause I want to lose weight and build a lean body. I would have never known which to go for without your help. Thank you very much!
I am glad that I could help you out.
Personally for me,a whey isolate is better. I am not really trying to get buff so I do not need a whey concentrate
The same goes for me. I am trying to build lean muscle so I would stick to a whey isolate over a whey concentrate.
